Meet the Directors

Summer camp has been a large part of the Dohners' activities over the years. Before coming to Oneka, they had worked together for over eighteen years in three different camps, Boy Scouts, YMCA, and day camp. They make their home in Wayne, PA.

Dale, a graduate of Widener University, (B.S.), and West Chester University, (M.A.) was a biology teacher at Radnor High School for 35 years. He served as department chairman and curriculum coordinator. He was head cross country coach of both the girls and boys team. He is an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR Instructor and has been involved with community programs for over 35 years.

Barbara, a graduate of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, (R.N.), Eastern University, (B.S.), and West Chester University, (M.Ed.), was a school nurse for nineteen years. She is a Red Cross CPR and First Aid instructor. She is the secretary for the Keystone Section, American Camp Association board.

Daughters Becky and Jennifer are seasoned Oneka campers and counselors. Becky is a graduate of Albright College, teaches Latin in the Haverford School District, Havertown, PA, and coaches swimming for Agnes Irwin School. Jennifer graduated from the University of Vermont and is a middle school teacher in Flower Mound, Texas. Son, Bob is a graduate of Villanova University and the University of New England School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is currently a family practice physician in Lakewood, PA, about 30 miles north of Oneka.

For the summer of 2012,  Dale and Barbara will be stepping back  from the  day to day directing of camp,  and Ali Hunter and Dan DeVos will be co-directors this summer.  Ali, a native of Summit, NJ has been at Oneka for 20 years as a camper, a counselor,  waterfront director, and for the past seven summers, assistant camp director.  After graduating from Skidmore Colleg (BA Music) she worked in London,England with the  exchange program from which we hire our international staff.  Upon return to the US, she began teaching music at the  Kent Place School in Summit.  She earned a master's degree in education from the College of St Elizabeth,  and for the  past five years has taught elementary school in Harding Township, NJ.  She currently teaches first grade.   Ali currently also directs an a cappella choir at Kent Place School.  Ali has been an EMT and a member of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad.  She is also an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, and CPR instructor. 

Dan Devos first came to Oneka in 1992, as a teenager,  as it's maintenance boy. He returned for summers during his high school and college years and became program director in 2004.  Dan is a graduate of Villanova University with a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  He has worked in the  US and the Netherlands as a software developer,  but he left the engineering life to follow his passion of building handcrafted fine furniture.  After studying woodworking under Mark Sfirri, he began working at the Wayne Art Center, Wayne PA, and launched a small art furniture business.  He has been at Wayne Art Center for  seven years and is currently their Operations Coordinator,  involved with Exhibition and Education Administration.  Dan, wife Meghan and son Ben live in Media, PA.  Meg is a graduate of Moore College of Arts and currently splits her time as mom and receptionist at the  Wayne Art Center.
