Camp Directors
The Camp Oneka Administrative Team!
Johnny and Rachel Waszczak
Owners and Directors of Camp Oneka
Growing up, Johnny attended sports camps, family camps, and went on camping adventures with his brother, sisters, mom, and dad. He loved it all; friends, sports, games, campfires, campfire songs, and the great outdoors. Pursuing his goal to teach and work with children and his passion for the outdoors, after his first year of university, he worked as a camp counselor at a traditoinal, overnight, Midwest summer camp (Camp Timberlane), and he knew that working with children in a camp setting was what he wanted to do with his life. Over the next 11 years he worked successively as a counselor, activity instructor, rock climbing director, wilderness trip leader, village director, and year-round associate director at that camp. He then moved on to be the director of a camp in Northeastern Pennsylvannia, later becoming the executive director of the 3 camp operation, where he spent 9 years. He is active with the American Camp Association (ACA), has served on ACA committees, and he currently serves as an accreditation/standards visitor. He also loves to help coach his two children’s softball and soccer teams.
Rachel has also loved and had a passion for summer camp and working with children. As a child, she attended day camps and overnight camps, and still has great friends and memories from those formative years of her life. She and Johnny worked together for over 10 years at Camp Timberlane, and for 9 more years in the Pocono Mountains (Camps Pine Forest, Timber Tops and Lake Owego simultaneously). She has worked as a counselor, lifeguard, lifeguard instructor, camp nurse, health center coordinator, director, and executive director. She is a board member for the Association of Camp Nursing and speaks frequently at local and national camp conferences about health and safety. She is also an active member of the American Camping Association and serves as an accreditation/standards visitor. Rachel
has been a nurse for 20 years serving as camp nurse, school nurse, rehabilitation nurse, a nurse in various hospital departments and, most recently, as a labor and delivery nurse in Honesdale, PA.
Tom "Tommy" Waszczak
Assistant Director and Facilities Manager
Tommy brings years of experience and energy to Camp Oneka. He has been working alongside Rachel and Johnny at camps over the years since 2004, building strong connections with campers and staff. Helping create the Oneka magic each summer. Tommy is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Eller College of Management, along with a minor in Philosophy. At camp, you can find Tommy just about everywhere—driving the ski boat on the lake, teaching rock climbing at the tower, or lending a hand wherever needed to keep camp running smoothly and looking beautiful. His versatility, dedication, and love for camp make him an invaluable part of the Oneka community.
Barb and Dale Dohner
Directors Emeriti
Barb and Dale Dohner dedicated over 40 years as owners and directors, shaping the camp into the special place it is today. Their love for camp, unwavering commitment, and deep sense of community created a strong foundation that continues to live on in every corner of Oneka. Even today, Barb and Dale remain an active and cherished part of camp life. Dale’s bugle still calls campers to meals, and Barb’s beautiful flowers brighten camp grounds—just a few of the many ways they continue to make Oneka feel like home. Beyond camp, Barb served as a nurse and Dale as a science teacher, bringing care, curiosity, and guidance into everything they did. Together, they have impacted generations of campers, helping shape confident, kind, and capable young women.
In honor of their incredible legacy, the dining hall—the heart of camp—was dedicated to Barb and Dale in 2025.
